Frankenstein Matcha Brownies Halloween Recipe

Frankenstein Matcha Brownies Halloween Recipe

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons high-quality culinary grade matcha powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (melted into the batter)
  • For Decoration:
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips or black decorating icing
  • 32 candy eyes
  • 16 mini pretzel sticks (broken into small pieces for bolts)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preparation and Preheating. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch square baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal later. Sift your flour and matcha powder together in a small bowl to ensure there are no green clumps in your dry mixture.
  2. Step 2: Mixing the Batter. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a smooth texture. Stir in the vanilla extract. Gently fold in the flour and matcha mixture until just combined. Finally, fold in the melted white chocolate to give the brownies that signature fudgy and decadent consistency.
  3. Step 3: Baking the Brownies. Pour the green batter into your prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs, but not wet batter. Be careful not to overbake, as you want to preserve the vibrant green color and avoid browning the edges too much.
  4. Step 4: Cooling and Cutting. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. This is a crucial step for getting clean, sharp edges when you cut them into rectangles. Once cooled, lift the brownies out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut them into 16 equal rectangles to serve as the long “faces” of your Frankenstein monsters.
  5. Step 5: Plating and Decorating. Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Dip the top of each brownie rectangle into the chocolate to create messy “hair,” or use a spoon to drizzle it on in a jagged pattern. Use a small amount of chocolate to stick two candy eyes onto each face. Pipe a small line for a mouth and a “scar.” Finally, push a small piece of pretzel stick into the sides of each brownie to serve as the neck bolts.
