Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups masa harina
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup lard or vegetable shortening
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups shredded beef (slow-cooked)
- 1 tablespoon chili powder

Instructions
- Begin by preparing your corn husks. Soak them in warm water for about 30 minutes until they become pliable.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the lard until fluffy, then slowly add the beef broth, mixing continuously until well integrated.
- Fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until you achieve a smooth, spreadable dough.
- Take your shredded beef and mix it with chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder.
- Spread a layer of masa dough onto a soaked corn husk, place a spoonful of beef filling in the center, and roll it up.
- Place the tamales upright in a steamer basket and steam for 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Remove cooked tamales from the steamer and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
