Description

Delicious homemade Beef Tamales filled with seasoned shredded beef and wrapped in corn husks, perfect for gatherings and cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup lard or vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups shredded beef (slow-cooked)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Corn husks (soaked in water)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your corn husks. Soak them in warm water for about 30 minutes until they become pliable.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the lard until fluffy, then slowly add the beef broth, mixing continuously until well integrated.
  3. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry mixture until you achieve a smooth, spreadable dough.
  4. Take your shredded beef and mix it with chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder.
  5. Spread a layer of masa dough onto a soaked corn husk, place a spoonful of beef filling in the center, and roll it up.
  6. Place the tamales upright in a steamer basket and steam for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  7. Remove cooked tamales from the steamer and allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Tamales are best enjoyed fresh and can be served with salsa, guacamole, or a salad. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
