Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
- 2/3 cup milk of choice (almond, oat, or dairy)
- 1/2 apple, finely diced (Fuji or Honeycrisp work best)
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Combine the Base Ingredients: Find a mason jar or a small airtight container. Add the rolled oats, chia seeds, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir these dry ingredients together to ensure the cinnamon and salt are evenly distributed throughout the oats.
- Step 2: Add Liquids and Sweetener: Pour your chosen milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract into the jar. Use a spoon to stir everything thoroughly. Make sure all the oats are submerged in the liquid and no dry pockets remain at the bottom of the container.
- Step 3: Fold in the Fresh Apples: Add the finely diced apples to the mixture. Gently fold them in so they are scattered throughout the jar. If you like a little extra crunch, save a few apple pieces to place on the very top right before sealing.
- Step 4: Refrigerate and Set: Seal the lid tightly on your jar. Place it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, though overnight is best for the creamiest texture. The oats and chia seeds will soak up the liquid, creating a thick, pudding-like consistency.
- Step 5: Serve and Enjoy: In the morning, remove the lid and give the oats a quick stir. If the mixture is too thick, splash in a little extra milk to loosen it up. Top with extra cinnamon or a few chopped walnuts if desired, and enjoy cold.
