Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Thighs

Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken Thighs

  • Total Time: 28 minutes
  • Diet: High-Protein

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup high-quality teriyaki sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnish
  • Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Start by patting the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step is crucial for achieving a good sear. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken pieces with the olive oil, garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Pour in half of the teriyaki sauce and toss everything together until the chicken is thoroughly coated. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes if you have the time, as this allows the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  2. Cooking: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. Place the seasoned chicken pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overlapping. Slide the basket in and cook for 12 to 15 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, pull the basket out and give it a good shake to flip the pieces. Use a pastry brush to apply the remaining teriyaki sauce over the chicken during the last 3 minutes of cooking to create a thick, sticky glaze.
  3. Plating: Carefully remove the chicken from the air fryer once the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the edges look slightly charred. Let the meat rest for 2 to 3 minutes to lock in the juices. Transfer the chicken to a serving platter or individual bowls. Garnish generously with toasted sesame seeds and freshly sliced green onions. Serve immediately over a bed of jasmine rice or alongside stir-fried broccoli.
