Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large turnips (about 1 pound), peeled
- 1.5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- Optional: Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Start by peeling the turnips thoroughly to remove the thick outer skin. Slice the turnips into uniform sticks, roughly 1/2 inch thick, to ensure they cook at the same rate. Place the turnip sticks into a large mixing bowl and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Drizzle the olive oil over the turnips, then sprinkle in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together vigorously until every single fry is evenly coated in the spice mixture.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes. Once ready, arrange the seasoned turnip fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket; if necessary, cook them in two batches. Air fry the turnips for 18 to 22 minutes. At the halfway mark (around 10 minutes), remove the basket and give it a good shake to flip the fries. This ensures they get crispy on all sides and prevents sticking.
- Check the fries for doneness; they should be deep golden brown and slightly charred at the edges. Remove them from the air fryer and let them rest for 1 to 2 minutes on a cooling rack; this helps the exterior crisp up even further. Transfer the fries to a serving platter and garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired. Serve them immediately while they are hot and crunchy alongside your favorite dipping sauce, such as spicy mayo or a garlic aioli.
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
