Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large pita bread rounds (standard or whole wheat)
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1.5 tablespoons za’atar seasoning
- A pinch of sea salt (optional, as za’atar often contains salt)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by slicing your pita bread rounds into triangles. You can do this easily with a sharp knife or a pizza cutter. Cut each round into 8 even wedges. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the extra virgin olive oil and the za’atar seasoning. Add the pita triangles to the bowl and toss them thoroughly. Use your hands or a silicone spatula to ensure every piece of bread is evenly coated with the oil and herb mixture. If you prefer a lighter coating, you can spray the pita with oil and sprinkle the za’atar on top instead.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about two minutes. Arrange the seasoned pita triangles in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer; do not overcrowd the basket or they will not crisp up properly. Set the timer for 6 to 8 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, pull the basket out and give it a good shake to flip the chips. Keep a close eye on them during the last two minutes, as they can turn from golden to burnt very quickly.
- Once the chips are golden brown and rigid to the touch, remove them from the air fryer. Transfer the hot chips to a cooling rack for two minutes; they will continue to crisp up as they cool. Move the chips to a serving bowl or a platter. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley if you want a pop of color. Serve immediately alongside your favorite dips like creamy hummus, tzatziki, or even a spicy feta dip.
