Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Pink Lady work best)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar or coconut sugar (optional)
- A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- Cooking spray (neutral oil like avocado or coconut)
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Use a mandoline slicer to cut the apples into very thin, uniform rounds, approximately 1/8-inch thick. If you do not have a mandoline, use a very sharp chef’s knife and aim for consistent thickness. You can choose to core the apples first, or leave the core in for a beautiful star pattern in the center; just be sure to remove any loose seeds. Place the slices in a large bowl and toss them gently with the cinnamon and sugar until every slice is lightly coated.
- Lightly grease your air fryer basket with a small amount of cooking spray. Arrange the apple slices in the basket in a single layer. It is okay if they overlap slightly as they will shrink during cooking, but do not stack them deeply. Set your air fryer to 300°F (150°C). Cook for 10 minutes, then flip each slice using tongs. Continue cooking for another 10 to 15 minutes. Check them every 5 minutes toward the end, as they can go from golden to burnt very quickly.
- Remove the apple chips from the air fryer while they still have a tiny bit of flexibility; they will crisp up significantly as they cool. Spread them out on a wire cooling rack in a single layer. Wait at least 5 to 10 minutes for them to reach their peak crunchiness. Once cooled, serve them in a decorative bowl or store them in an airtight container for later snacking.
- Cook Time: 35 minutes
