Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely diced
- 12 pre-baked mini phyllo shells (found in the freezer section)
- 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
- 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- Start by peeling your apples and dicing them into very small, uniform pieces—about a quarter-inch thick. In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with the lemon juice, granulated sugar, and half of the cinnamon. In a separate small bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, the remaining cinnamon, and salt. Use a fork or your fingers to work the cold butter cubes into the oat mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. This creates that signature “crisp” texture once heated.
- Place the mini phyllo shells on a flat surface and fill each one generously with the seasoned apple mixture. Press the apples down slightly to fit as many as possible. Top each shell with a spoonful of the oat crumble, pressing it gently so it adheres to the fruit. Arrange the bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch. Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
- Carefully remove the bites from the air fryer using tongs or a small spatula. Let them sit for 2 to 3 minutes; the shells will crisp up further as they cool. Arrange them on a serving platter and, if you’re feeling indulgent, drizzle them with a bit of salted caramel sauce or top with a tiny dollop of whipped cream. Serve them warm for the best flavor experience.
