Description

Tender beef strips and crisp onions enveloped in a savory sauce, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, cut into strips
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce, divided
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, increase heat to high and add remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once hot, add marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this mixture over the beef and let simmer for a couple of minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the sautéed onions back into the skillet, stirring gently to combine with the beef and sauce. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
