Description

A warm and comforting dish featuring homemade wontons and aromatic broth, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 green onions, cut into several pieces
  • Salt and white pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Sliced green onions for garnish
  • Sesame oil (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, minced ginger, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onion. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  2. Lay out a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling mixture in the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with a little water to help seal it.
  3. Fold the wrapper over to create a triangle, pressing out any air. Bring the two corners of the triangle together and pinch them to seal the wonton. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  4. In a large pot, combine the chicken broth, water, sliced ginger, smashed garlic, and green onion pieces. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  5. Add the prepared wontons to the broth and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the wontons float to the top and are cooked through. Taste the broth and adjust with soy sauce, salt, and white pepper according to your preference.
  6. Serve the soup hot in bowls, garnished with chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, and a drizzle of sesame oil if desired.

Notes

Ensure wontons are sealed tightly and consider using homemade chicken broth for better flavor. You can make variations by adding chili for spice or substituting for vegetarian options.
