- 250g kunafa (shredded phyllo dough)
- 100g unsalted butter (melted)
- 200g ricotta cheese
- 100g sugar
- 100g chopped pistachios
- 200ml milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Honey or syrup (for drizzling)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the kunafa with melted butter, mixing well to coat all the strands evenly.
- Press half of the kunafa mixture into the bottom of a greased baking dish, forming a solid base.
- In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the first layer of kunafa in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the chopped pistachios generously over the ricotta filling.
- Cover with the remaining kunafa mixture, pressing down gently to ensure it holds together.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into sandwiches to allow the filling to set.
- Drizzle with honey or syrup just before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, garnished with additional chopped pistachios and a light drizzle of honey or syrup. Pairs well with tea or coffee.
