Description

A delightful fusion dessert combining the nutty flavors of pistachios with rich, cheesy kunafa in a crispy sandwich-like treat.


Ingredients

  • 250g kunafa (shredded phyllo dough)
  • 100g unsalted butter (melted)
  • 200g ricotta cheese
  • 100g sugar
  • 100g chopped pistachios
  • 200ml milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Honey or syrup (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the kunafa with melted butter, mixing well to coat all the strands evenly.
  3. Press half of the kunafa mixture into the bottom of a greased baking dish, forming a solid base.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the first layer of kunafa in the baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the chopped pistachios generously over the ricotta filling.
  7. Cover with the remaining kunafa mixture, pressing down gently to ensure it holds together.
  8. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing into sandwiches to allow the filling to set.
  10. Drizzle with honey or syrup just before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, garnished with additional chopped pistachios and a light drizzle of honey or syrup. Pairs well with tea or coffee.
