Description

Soft, fluffy naan bread perfect for pairing with curries and stews, or enjoyed with garlic butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
  • Garlic (optional, for flavor)
  • Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  2. Add the yogurt and warm water to the dry ingredients and gently stir until combined.
  3. Knead the mixture into a soft dough, adding oil if the dough sticks.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 1-2 hours in a warm place.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into thin circles.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side until puffy.
  7. Optionally, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic and cilantro before serving.

Notes

Store leftover naan in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
