Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract; whisk until blended.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, then stir in the boiling water.
- Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
