Description

A delightful twist on the classic chicken sandwich, combining crispy, tender chicken with a sweet and spicy honey drizzle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce leaves, for garnish
  • Tomato slices, for garnish
  • Pickles, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for optimal tenderness.
  2. Prepare the dry mix: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
  3. Cook the chicken: Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Remove the marinated chicken, dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture until fully coated, and fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Drain on paper towels.
  4. Finishing touches: In a small bowl, mix the honey and hot sauce. Toast the hamburger buns, place the fried chicken on each bun, add cheddar cheese, drizzle with hot honey, and garnish with lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles. Serve immediately.

Notes

For more flavor, marinate overnight. Adjust spice levels with cayenne and hot sauce to your preference.
