Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  • Optional: garlic, herbs for flavor

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together.
  2. Add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
  5. Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat and divide the dough into small balls.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval shape.
  7. Carefully place each rolled naan on the hot skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  8. Brush each naan with melted butter as it comes off the skillet and serve warm.

Store leftover naan in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
