Description

Delight in the aroma of freshly baked homemade baguettes with a crisp crust and airy interior. Perfect for sandwiches or simply enjoying warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well and pour in the yeast mixture; stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 60 minutes.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two pieces, shaping each into a long baguette.
  6. Lay the shaped baguettes on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  8. Slash the tops of the baguettes and spray with water for a moist baking environment.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or for gourmet sandwiches. Store in a paper bag, not plastic, for freshness.
