Description
Delight in the aroma of freshly baked homemade baguettes with a crisp crust and airy interior. Perfect for sandwiches or simply enjoying warm.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a well and pour in the yeast mixture; stir until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 60 minutes.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two pieces, shaping each into a long baguette.
- Lay the shaped baguettes on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 to 45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Slash the tops of the baguettes and spray with water for a moist baking environment.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before slicing.
Notes
