Description
A delightful treat showcasing the flavors of Greece, these rolls are crunchy on the outside and warm and nutty on the inside, soaked in a sweet honey syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 cup walnuts or pecans, finely chopped
- 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, combine the finely chopped nuts and cinnamon.
- Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush with melted butter, then place another sheet on top. Sprinkle a line of the nut mixture along one edge and roll it tightly into a log. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
- Brush the tops of the rolled pastries with more melted butter and arrange them on a baking sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
- Prepare the syrup by combining honey, sugar, water, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Once the rolls are baked, pour the warm syrup over them and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These rolls are best enjoyed warm. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate for about a week. Reheat in the oven to regain crispiness.
