Description

A decadent fusion of French onion soup and creamy baked brie, this appetizer is perfect for gatherings and cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 round Brie cheese
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sprinkle in the sugar. Cook until caramelized, about 20-30 minutes, stirring frequently. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  2. Pour in the beef broth and add the thyme. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the round Brie cheese in a baking dish and pour the onion soup mixture over it. Sprinkle shredded Gruyère on top.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve warm with toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

For perfectly caramelized onions, cook them low and slow. You can also experiment with different cheeses.
