Description

A comforting twist on the classic French onion soup, combining caramelized onions, seasoned beef, and melted cheese in soft rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 to 6 slices of provolone or Swiss cheese
  • Sub rolls or baguette

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced onions until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Fill the sub rolls with the beef mixture and top with cheese. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

Serve warm with a simple green salad or crispy fries. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
