Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until fully integrated. Gradually fold in the flour and salt until smooth.
  5. Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thick and cut out donuts.
  7. Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) and fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. For the filling, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until simmering, then pour it over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, fill the donuts with the chocolate mixture using a piping bag.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
