  • Butter or oil (for greasing the griddle)

Instructions

  1. Begin by gathering all your ingredients.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips gently.
  4. Heat a non-stick griddle or skillet over medium heat and grease it lightly. Once hot, pour about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the griddle. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Flip carefully and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, or until both sides are a deep chocolatey brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the pancakes from the griddle and stack them on a plate. Continue cooking the remaining batter, greasing as necessary. Serve warm with toppings.
