  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and then add vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until no flour streaks remain.
  5. Portion out the dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 8-10 minutes until slightly golden around the edges.
  7. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

For chewier cookies, use light brown sugar and slightly underbake. Chill the dough if sticky.
