Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Slowly mix in the sour cream.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  5. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, chopped nuts (if using), and cinnamon. Sprinkle half over the first layer of batter.
  7. Spread the remaining batter on top, followed by the rest of the brown sugar mixture. Swirl with a knife.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool slightly before slicing to serve.

Notes

Best served warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze individual slices for up to 2 months.
