Description
Homemade Chocolate-Covered Orange Peels combine refreshing citrus zest with rich chocolate for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large oranges
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
- Begin by cutting the peel of each orange into four vertical segments and remove the peels, slicing them into strips about 1/4 inch wide.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves to create a sweet syrup.
- Reduce heat to low, add the orange peels to the syrup, and simmer gently for 45 minutes to 1 hour until translucent.
- Drain the peels, toss in 1/2 cup of sugar, then transfer to a lined baking sheet and let sit at room temperature for 1-2 days to dry.
- Melt the chocolate chips and heavy cream together, dip each orange peel in chocolate, allow excess to drip off, and place back on the baking sheet to cool until set.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks or refrigerate for longer freshness. Consider using different types of chocolate or adding spices for variations.
