Description
Delightful homemade candied orange slices that combine bright citrus flavor with a sweet touch, perfect for snacking or garnishing desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium Oranges (Thin-skinned varieties like Cara Cara or Navel)
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup Chocolate (For dipping the candied slices)
Instructions
- Start by thoroughly washing the oranges to remove any wax or dirt. Slice the oranges into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick, and remove seeds if necessary. Lay slices on a kitchen towel to absorb excess moisture.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely, without boiling.
- Add the orange slices to the syrup, ensuring they are submerged. Allow to simmer gently, then reduce heat to low. Cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, flipping halfway through until slices are translucent and slightly sticky.
- Remove slices from syrup using a fork or slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool and dry for about 30 minutes. Melt chocolate and dip the cooled orange slices, allowing excess chocolate to drip off before placing back on the wire rack to set.
Notes
Store candied orange slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.
