Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage

Description

A comforting pasta dish combining rich flavors of Italian sausage with a delightful cheesy texture.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add marinara sauce to the skillet with the sausage and mix well. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti, sausage mixture, ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir until mixed well.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Let it cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve.

Notes

Consider using different cheeses for a unique twist. Make ahead and refrigerate before baking for optimal flavor.
