Description
A healthier take on the beloved restaurant classic, this recipe offers a perfectly cooked Bloomin Onion that is crispy, flavorful, and perfect for dipping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large onion
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Cut off the top of the onion and remove the papery skin. Cut about 1/2 inch off the bottom to ensure it sits flat. Slice the onion into 16 wedges while keeping the bottom intact.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and cayenne (if using). In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
- Dip the onion in the egg mixture, then in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. For a thicker coating, repeat once more for both mixtures.
- Lightly spray the onion with cooking spray. Place it in the air fryer and cook for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Notes
Serve immediately with dipping sauces like ranch or remoulade. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheat in the air fryer before serving.
